Chinese film The Last Wish is unlikely to screen in theaters on its scheduled date of July 18, according to sources.

The film has experienced a rough road to theaters. Its Chinese title was previously changed from Weida de Yuanwang (lit: great wish) to Xiaoxiao de Yuanwang (lit: small wish) and its release date was changed from August 9 to July 18.

Directed by Chinese director Tian Yusheng, the film tells the story of a terminally ill teen who goes on a journey with his two best friends to fulfill his last wish. The film stars Chinese actors Peng Yuchang, Wang Dalu and Wei Daxun.

According to industry insiders, the film has not yet received regulatory approval needed to screen in theaters, while another film which is debuting that same day, Looking Up, has already been approved.

The film's production company has told media that it does not have any information about the film's release date.
