A man in East China's Shandong Province pulled out his right artificial eye to perhaps frighten police into letting him go, after they found he was driving without license.

The local police in Yantai stopped the man at a routine checkpoint and checked his license, local media Qilu Evening News reported on Sunday.

The driver, who is in his 40s, claimed he forgot to take his license with him, but police soon found that a check of his other ID revealed he had never received a driver's license.

As the police were about to punish the driver, the man tried to talk them out of issuing him a fine and when that didn't work he went to extremes.

"Kill me!" the driver screamed, shows a video posted by The Beijing News.

"I'll give you my eye!" is the driver's next tactic as he suddenly takes off his glasses, and pulls out his right "eye" and hands it to a police officer, who takes a number of stunned steps backward.

"What's that?" another officer asks. "Artificial eye," the driver replied.

The police detained the driver 10 days, fined him 1,000 yuan ($142), and temporarily impounded his car, in accordance with the traffic law.
