A pet alligator frightened neighbors who spotted the reptile stretched out on the red tile roof of a residential building in the city of Manshan in East China's Anhui Province.

A video posted by The Beijing News on Wednesday shows the nearly one-meter-long juvenile Siamese crocodile hanging out in the shade of a rooftop solar water heater, according to a video posted by The Beijing News.

The video shows two young men wearing gym attire using a stick to lure the alligator into an angler's fishing net from a neighboring terrace.

The Beijing News reported that local police and officials from the forestry bureau took the alligator into custody.

Police said the alligator was being raised by a resident surnamed Wang and his pet managed to escape when he wasn't at home.

The alligator has been taken to the Chinese alligator breeding research center by the police.

Siamese crocodiles can be bought and sold in China but both buyers and sellers must be certified breeders.

It's not known if Wang was qualified to keep the alligator.

An adult male Siamese crocodile can reach four meters in length and weigh up to 350 kilograms.
