Inspired by an artwork made from a car displayed at a Shanghai gallery, a man in East China has designed and made eight Transformers by himself, one of which sold for more than 100,000 yuan ($14,201).

After seeing the artwork in Shanghai 10 years ago, Yuan Shitao decided to use car parts to make his own works, according to a video posted by Pear Video.

Yuan bought and transported spare parts to his home in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, and researched how to make Transformers.

He spent two and a half months making the first model, and sold it to a primary school in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, for more than 100,000 yuan.

One of Yuan's Transformers is 4.2 meters tall, 2.7 meters wide and weighs more than 1,500 kilograms. He has made eight Transformers, including one of Optimus Prime.

Yuan has sold four transformers, and four others are still in his yard. These models are also proving popular with his neighbors. "Many children in the village like to play with these Transformers," one villager told Pear Video.

Yuan said he often went to galleries and museums around the country to help design and arrange exhibitions, which helped develop his artistic skills.

Most Chinese netizens gave high praise to Yuan's artistic talents on Sina Weibo.
