A rare, hairless Sphynx cat was snatched by two people visiting a cat cafe in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province on Saturday, which owners say is worth more than 10,000 yuan ($1,406).

The owner of the cafe and the cat says surveillance video shows a woman putting the Sphynx cat into her bag as an accomplice sits next to her at a table in the cafe, according to Pear Video posted on Sina Weibo on Sunday.

The owner didn't realize the cat was missing until her husband was closing up shop and then checked the cafe's closed circuit video.

"Sphynx cats are usually peaceful and the one that was stolen is small and didn't struggle at all. They just put the cat in their bag, zipped it up and walked out," she said.

The timestamp on their video shows the couple were in the cafe for two hours on Saturday afternoon, said the owner.

"I don't recall them coming into the shop before," but it seemed the theft was planned, the owner told Pear Video.

The owner said she and her husband have reported the case to the police, but it's not known if the thieves have been caught.

"Now people are even stealing cats," one netizen mused with disgust. "Who knows what they are going to go after next time?"

"I don't know how come such an ugly cat could be worth that much, or  why anyone would want to keep one," wrote another netizen.
