A retired worker in East China who used to travel for his job has been granted four patents for airplane seats that he says can provide greater comfort and will help travelers arrive less sore than before.

Dai Guizhu, 65, a resident of Jinan, capital of Shandong Province, remembers the aches and pains he suffered while traveling on frequent business trips, he said in a video posted by btime.com, a news website.

"I often needed to take buses, trains and airplanes," Dai said. "I always felt exhausted after a long journey."

He's been working on improving passenger seats for more than 30 years to relieve the fatigue of sitting for hours during a long journey.

"Those seats [on airplanes] are very uncomfortable," said Dai in a Btime video showing the detailed patent drawings of his seats that better conform to the pressure points of a human body.

His scale models of an airplane seat show that when passengers sit on an existing seat, their waist is under great pressure, which creates fatigue just by sitting for long periods.

Dai said by changing the angle of recline his seats reduce the stress on people's waists.

"I hope my invention patent can be applied as soon as possible to make passengers more comfortable during their journey," Dai said. The video didn't say if any airline has purchased the rights to his seats design.
