Chinese movie The Climbers hosted a special screening for teachers and students at Peking University (PKU) in Beijing on Friday, to pay tribute to the university's well-known climbing team.

The movie starring Chinese actors Wu Jing, Zhang Yi and Hu Ge follows the real-life expedition of two generations of Chinese mountaineers to ascend Mount Qomolangma (known as Mount Everest in the West) from the perilous north side in 1960 and 1975.

"The movie received a lot of mixed comments," Wu said at the event.

"But I still wanted to hear more voices here at PKU, where different ideas meet."

While the film has earned an impressive 1 billion yuan ($141 million) in just 14 days, it currently holds a rating of 6.6/10 on Chinese media review site Douban from mixed reviews.

Wei Wei, former president of the Mountaineering Association of Peking University, said that she was excited to see the film tell the stories of the team to the public.
