Audiences at Beijing's Jingshan Park, the centuries-old royal garden dating back to the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, enjoyed a classical music concert on Monday night as part of the ongoing Beijing Music Festival (BMF).

The Tango A Concert of BMF Commissions was staged by the China Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Huang Yi and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

The show marked the first public opening of the park's Shouhuang Hall, an important building in the capital city's famous central axis area. According to Yu Long, renowned conductor and chairman of BMF, hosting such a Western classic music concert at an ancient Chinese hall is a new attempt at building a bridge between the cultures of the East and West.

The three works at the concert were commissioned by BMF from composers Zhou Long, Ye Xiaogang and Aaron Zigman.
