After climbing the mountains on the Earth's seven continents, hiking to the north and south poles, a Chinese adventurer now plans to sail around the world.

When he's not undertaking some extraordinary feat, Zhang Jianguo, 54, lives in Changzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province, according to the Yangtze Evening Post on Tuesday.

When he was 40, Zhang was already successful in business but was also a portly 100 kilograms. That's when he decided to change his life in a very dramatic fashion, the report said.

Zhang hired a fitness coach, quit smoking, gave up liquor and began exercising every day. He jogged, swam and cycled and spent an hour in the steam room.

Within three months he dropped 15 kilograms and his global adventures began.

In June 2008, his first challenge was climbing the highest peak in Oceania. This led to climbs in other continents and a trek to the top of Mount Qomolangma, the world's tallest mountain in May 2017.

Zhang's latest challenge is to sail a 11-meter-long Chinese sailboat for 40, 000 nautical miles around the world to become the first Chinese explorer to accomplish such a feat.

Zhang's amazing exploits have been inspirational to many netizens who applauded his willpower at overcoming challenges."Zhang's story is so motivational," one wrote.
