By one criteria, it might be the oldest village in the world. Located in Shiping county, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, local residents have for centuries used large rocks embedded with fossils to build their homes.

The homes, walls and pathways of the ancient village were built using large rocks and many contain perfectly preserved fossils of leaves and other prehistoric life, according to a Pear Video posted on Sina Weibo on Tuesday, which didn't name the village or provide details of its history.

The village appears to have been built before the age of cement and its narrow pathways lined with three-meter-tall walls that are made entirely of field stones has become a tourist attraction.

"Looking at the fossils, it feels like traveling back to ancient times and I can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city," one visitor said in the video.

The video had been viewed more than 270,000 times as of Thursday.
