The coastal areas of Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi were hit by the super cyclonic storm Kyarr on Monday, affecting over 180 houses and displacing at least 500 people, local media reported.

Kyarr over Eastcentral Arabian Sea has moved further west-northwestward during last 12 hours, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in an alert issued on Monday, adding that the cyclone has been at the distance of 745 km from Karachi.

"Currently, none of the Pakistan coastal area is under direct threat from this system. However, under its influence, scattered rainfall is expected in lower Sindh and along Makran coast during Wednesday and Friday," the weather department said.

Three to four-meter-high waves could be generated in the deep sea due to the impact of the cyclone, PMD Director Sardar Sarfaraz told Xinhua, adding that the impact of the super cyclone will be experienced until Nov. 2.

The department has also advised fishermen to remain alert and not to venture in the deep sea starting from Monday.

The PMD also informed that the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center of the department was regularly monitoring the intensity and track of the cyclone.
