Urban cycling worlds kicks off

The 2019 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships kicked off on Wednesday in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

More than 500 cyclists from 40 countries and regions are competing in the tournament, which features three disciplines: BMX freestyle, BMX flatland and trials.

In the competitions held on the opening day, Spain claimed the first gold medal of in the team trials, highlighted by the solid performance from Alejandro Montalvo.

Spain amass 700 points to stand on the top of the podium, followed by Switzerland (630 points) and France (570 points). 

The BMX freestyle competition will also be a qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Games, as the discipline will make its debut at the Olympics.
