A 7-year-old dog in Hangzhou, East  China's Zhejiang Province, has returned home after making a 26-day journey which covers a distance of 60 kilometers, local media the Qianjiang Evening News reported on Monday.

The dog, named Doudou, went missing in late September when it was taken on a trip with its owner, surnamed Qiu, from Hangzhou to his hometown.

When Qiu and his family stopped to rest at a highway service area in Tonglu, a town over 60 kilometers away from Hangzhou, they forgot to bring Doudou along and drove away.

Thus began Doudou's lonely journey to find its way home.

On Thursday, 26 days later, the Qiu family saw a filthy stray dog on their doorstep. To their surprise, it turned out to be Doudou.

"Doudou got home much skinnier, all dirty and smelly, and its hair was caked," Qiu told media. But our little hero is sure thrilled to be back, Qiu said.
