Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions' comedy horror film Freaky topped the North American box office for a second straight weekend with $1.22 million from 2,057 locations, according to studio figures collected by measurement firm Comscore.

The North American box office this weekend has been the lowest since the market reopened theaters during summer amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jackie Chan's Chinese action adventure film Vanguard was the only new wide release as there was no new wide release from major Hollywood studios.

Freaky has grossed $5.6 million after 10 days in North America.

Directed by Christopher Landon and starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton, the low-budget film with a reported $6 million budget tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who unintentionally switches bodies with a relentless serial killer and then has to race against the clock to reverse the magical curse.

The R-rated film holds an approval rating of 84 percent based on 176 reviews on review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

The War with Grandpa, 101 Studios' family comedy film, came in second with $733,000 from 1,688 locations in its seventh weekend for a North American cume of $16.18 million.

Directed by Tim Hill and based upon the novel of the same name by the late US children's book author Robert Kimmel Smith, the film stars two-time Academy Award winner Robert de Niro.

The plot follows a sixth-grader who works to get his grandfather to move out of his room after he moves in with his family.

Focus Features' Let Him Go landed in third with $710,000 from 1,907 locations in its third weekend, pushing its North American cume to 7.92 million dollars.

Directed by Thomas Bezucha and based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Larry Watson, the Western thriller stars two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as a retired sheriff and his wife who leave their Montana ranch to rescue their young grandson from the clutches of a dangerous family living off the grid in the Dakotas, headed by matriarch Blanche Weboy.
