The founder of the organization "Home for the Kidney Stone Babies," Zhao Lianhai was arrested in Daxing district by the police on Friday night. Li Xuemei, Zhao's wife, told the Global times that about a dozen police officers from Daxing District Public Security Bureau and Tuanhe substation presented a warrant for Zhao's arrest.

When Zhao refused to go with them, as the summons did not clearly state why, the police officers called their superior, who amended the warrant, alleging Zhao was suspected of being involved in the crime of "provoking an incident."

Officers took away many items, including two computers, a video recorder, a camera, a USB drive, campaign T-shirts and an address book.

The arrest occurred just two hours after Zhao and Wang Gang, the father of a baby stricken by Sanlu's poisoned milk powder , successfully received an official apology from Haidian police.

Zhao and Wang were invited by the Haidian police on Friday to address a previous dispute. Officers, who conducted the controversial detention of Wang, gave the father an apology and paid for Wang's physical examination.

"A police car followed us all the way from my home to the Haidian police headquarters," Zhao said. He even took a picture of the car that followed him.

Two hours after Zhao returned home, Daxing police arrested him.

Last September, Zhao set up the "Family of Stone Babies" website, after his own 4-yearold son was found to have developed a kidney stone. On September 11, one year after
the Sanlu scandal was exposed, he organized a candlelit dinner and called for the setup of a National Memorial Day for the victims of tainted milk powder.

In a Global Times interview before his detention, Zhao said he totally agrees that national stability is extremely important.

"I think if the government responded earnestly to the appeals of poison milk powder victims, it will make our own country more stable and win the respect of the world." Peng Jian, Zhao's lawyer, also gave advice to other dairy companies Yili, and Shengyuan, who are also involved in the tainted milk scandal. "They are short-sighted as they refuse to make a reasonable compensation plan for the poison milk victims." Peng said imported milk powders now dominate the Chinese market. "The domestic dairy industry should make a conscious effort to regain the fading confidence of customers."

An officer at the Politics Office of the Daxing police headquarters refused to comment on the detention, suggesting the journalist calls back on Monday.
