The most romantic - Hailuogou hot springs

There are three hot springs in Hailuogou on Gongga Mountain in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province. The temperature of the Hailuogou hot springs range from 50ËšC to 80ËšC and are good for treating skin diseases, arthritis and rheumatism.

In the Hailuogou hot springs, the view features mountains surrounded by clouds. And on winter days, the snow falls into the mist of the hot springs.

The royal treatment - Huaqing hot springs

Huaqing hot springs is located in Huaqing Palace in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, which was the temporary imperial palace in the Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties. It is famous for the love story between Emperor Xuanzong in the Tang Dynasty and his concubine Lady Yang, in which they were so much in love but eventually, Lady Yang was forced to commit suicide to make the soldiers protect Emperor Xuanzong in the An Shi Rebellion.

In the ancient times, there were 10 hot spring pools, 10 halls, seven towers, four gardens, three pavilions, three platforms and one cave in Huaqing Palace, 10 times the size of the present area of the hot spring. That’s because after the An Shi Rebellion, the emperor visited the hot spring less and less and eventually abandoned it. The spring is constantly at 43ËšC – neither too hot nor too cold for a comfortable bath.

The coldest - Arxan hot springs

Wuli Spring, which is 2.5 kilometers from Arxan City in Inner Mongolia, is formed by the exposure of the groundwater permeated and converged in the cracks of the Jurassic lava under the long-term effect of geothermal heat and mineralization. With temperatures ranging between 6.3ËšC to 6.8ËšC, the water contains 35 kinds of trace elements necessary for the health of human beings.

Most people living in the Arxan region don’t have cancer apparently because they drink the water from the Arxan springs.

Legendary ritual - Lisu minority nude bath

From January 1 to 3 on Chinese lunar calendar, the Lisu people living along the Nu River in Yunnan Province gather at the 16 hot springs along the Lu River for the annual nude bath, where they also hold other activities such as shooting arrows and playing on swings.

The Lisu people also believe that after bathing naked in the natural hot springs, they will not suffer from any diseases the following year.
