Nanling Mountains (南岭山脉)

Guangxi is a mountainous region. The Nanling Mountains (南岭山脉) are found in the northeast border, with the Yuecheng Mountains (越城岭) and Haiyang Mountains (æµ·æ´‹å±±) being its shorter branching ridges. Nearer to the center of the region are the Dayao Mountains (大ç'¶å±±) and the Daming Mountains (大明山). To the north there are the Duyao Mountains (都阳山) and the Fenghuang Mountains (凤凰山), while on the southeast border there are the Yunkai Mountains (äº'开大山). The highest point is Mount Mao'er (猫儿山) located in the Yuecheng Mountains, at 2,141 meters.

Many rivers go through the mountains including Li River, Gui River, Hongshui River, Qian River, Liu River and so on. Guangxi has a short coastline on the Gulf of Tonkin. Important seaports include Beihai, Qinzhou and Fangchenggang.

Crossed by the Tropic of Cancer in the central part, Guangxi has a sub-tropical monsoonal climate with long summers and warm winters, plentiful rainfall, and frequent rainstorms and typhoons in summer and autumn. It has a mean annual temperature of 17-23℃-- the hottest month, July, averaging 23-28℃ and the coldest month, January, 6-15℃-- and a mean annual precipitation of 1,300-2,400 mm.
