Students kneel down for parents on ceremony

A parent cries after having his daughter kneel down in reverence to him in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province on May 4.

Middle school students in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province knelt down in gratitude and respect to parents at a ceremony held on May 4, which falls on China's Youth Day, as reported by the New Express on May 5.

One father said he burst into tears at seeing his daughter's kneeling. "I am quite touched. She has grown up. I feel regret for not caring enough for her."

"I am also astonished to read the words on the letter my dad gifted me with. He has never said that before," the daughter expressed.

Zheng Chi, principal of the middle school told reporters the ceremony originated from a student's proposal.

"We will hold such ceremony every year," Zheng said.
