For the city’s nightowls, a perfect summer evening usually entails drinking with friends and the added bonus of beautiful views of the city’s sights. And the best place to enjoy Shanghai’s most breathtaking vistas is along the Bund waterfront, on either side of the river.

The Global Times sought out some of the Puxi side’s best terraces, where the neon-lit splendor of the Pudong skyline, and the Bund’s historical grandeur can be savored.

Standing on the Vue Bar terrace – the 33rd Floor of Hyatt on the Bund Hotel Shanghai – positions you on the highest terrace on the Bund.

And the views from this height include some spectacular scenery. Besides a large variety of drinks, the open space boasts cozy day beds and a Jacuzzi.

Sir Elly's

Opened in 2009 and located on the 13th and 14th floor of the Peninsula Shanghai, Sir Elly's restaurant features a terrace with the theme of "Garden of Eden," which is open from 8 pm to 1 am this summer.

Accessed via a staircase from Sir Elly's main lounge, the expansive outdoor terrace boasts a 270 degree view taking in most of the surrounding landscape of the Bund and the Huangpu River.

On the mezzanine (or 14.5th floor) you can find Sir Elly's Roof Top Bar where cocktails and wines are served.

Standing on the terrace looking left, you can see the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Garden Bridge of Shanghai, while on the right is an unimpeded view of Lujiazui and an exotic cluster of buildings on the Bund.

This Saturday Sir Elly's will hold a terrace party for participants of the Tour De Bund Charity Ride - a charity bike ride held by The Peninsula Shanghai to mark the 98th Tour de France Cycle Race.

Snacks and drinks are available at 11 am after the three-hour ride which starts from Fuxing Road East. Anyone over 14 years of age can apply to take part in the ride for a fee of 200 yuan ($30.88) which will be donated to charity. They must provide their own bicycle and helmet.

Swatch Art Peace Hotel

Newly opened this month, the roof terrace on the 7th floor of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel has been restored into one of the premier destinations in the city – reviving a reputation it enjoyed more than a century ago.

The former roof garden of the Peace Hotel, this new terrace can host up to 120 guests.

Distinguished by its iconic Baroque tower, the furniture and decoration – long white couches with simple patterns – are typical of its low-key elegance.

The terraces of Stiller’s Restaurant.

Stiller’s Restaurant

Located inside The Cool Docks, one of the city’s oldest landmarks, the terrace at Stiller’s Restaurant may not as hot as the stunning terraces further north on the Bund, but it still offers the chance to take in some amazing views.

The Michelin-starred Stiller’s Restaurant on the 7th floor of the building also boasts great views courtesy of its ceiling-topped windows.

The restaurant serves Continental European style food and the 200-square-meter terrace can host between 80 to 100 guests.
