At least ten tombs of court eunuchs who flourished during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) have been discovered in the Institute of Geomechanics near Wanshou Temple in Haidian district in Beijing, the Legal Mirror reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the archaeological excavation has come to an end. The tombs can help experts study the culture of the Ming Dynasty and its funeral customs in more depth. The owners of the tombs, the burial dates and the degrees of decay will be confirmed in future archaeological reports.

Originally, the site was intended for a laboratory building, but several cultural relics have been discovered since construction began in August of this year. The builders immediately reported the case to the cultural heritage department, local residents said.

Many tombs of eunuchs have been discovered in the western suburbs of Beijing, an expert on cultural relics said, adding that they had also found the tombs of other eunuchs from the Ming Dynasty near Wuta Temple, not far from the Wanshou discovery, in 2002 and 2003.
