Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged to promote the transformation of economic growth pattern and adjustment of economic growth model of China's southernmost island province of Hainan to improve the livelihood of local people.

Hainan should gain momentum from reform and innovation, and adapt to the changing world based on its own conditions and features, said Li during an inspection trip to the scenic island between March 30 to April 2.

Hainan has the capacity and condition to develop modern service industry, characteristic agriculture, and intensive manufacturing, as it enjoys good geographical location, climate and ecological environment, as well as systematic advantages and more openness, he said.

Hainan is China's largest special economic zone and is making all efforts to build the island into an international tourist and shopping destination.

Hainan should be further open both domestically and globally and protect local environment while seeking industrial development, said Li.

Li visited Hainan Resort Software Community, an elderly service center, a medical tourism zone and local farmland during the three-day trip.

Li also attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2012 and delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony Monday.
