Floods destroy crops in S. Philippines

Floods caused by rains dumped by typhoon Guchol damaged 29.8 million pesos ($703,759) worth of rice and corn crops in southern Philippines, according an initial report released by the Philippine agriculture department on Monday.

The agriculture department said corn crops lost in North Cotabato were valued at 24.43 million pesos. Rice crops that were destroyed were valued at 5.2 million pesos.

A total of 945 hectares of corn areas and 647 hectares of rice areas were affected by the floods.
