Macao's Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May this year went up by 6.76 percent over the same period of last year, according to the figures released Thursday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

In comparison with May 2011, price index of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded notable year-on-year increase of 31.93 percent and 9.9 percent respectively during the period, due to dearer prices of vegetable and fresh pork as well as higher charges for dining out, according to the figures.

The average Composite CPI for the first five months of 2012 increased by 6.47 percent year-on-year. For the 12 months ended May 2012, the average Composite CPI increased by 6.4 percent from the preceding period.
