Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan Friday sacked his National Security Adviser Andrew Azazi and Defense Minister Haliru Bello.

Azazi has been replaced by Gambo Dasuki, a retired colonel of the Nigerian Army.

Jonathan summoned an emergency meeting with all his security chiefs on his arrival from the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil earlier Friday.

Azazi and Bello attended the meeting that lasted about one and a half hours at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Reuben Abati, the president's spokesman, confirmed this, but did not give reasons for the president's decision.
