The Brazilian mining company Vale said it is investing in training train drivers in Mozambique to satisfy local demand in the railway sector.

Vale is involved in the coal mining exploration in the northwestern Mozambican province of Tete, according to the Mozambique News Agency (AIM) on Tuesday.

It reported that the company has been using the Moatize(Tete)- Sena railway line to export its coal to the outside world since August last year.

According to a communique from the company, at least 125 workers have been trained in Tete and in the central port city of Beira. Vale uses the Beira port to export its coal from Tete.

The first group was trained by the Mozambique publicly-owned Ports and Railways Company (CFM) .

"Apart from technical knowledge, the process goes through the instructions of norms and operational procedures," says the communique, without revealing the money involved in the training investment.

According to the statement, Vale's aim is to increase its production in the coming year, and hopes to spot other mining sites in the northwestern province.

Training Mozambicans is among the obligations of the Brazilian mining company, under an agreement it signed with the Maputo administration in 2010.
