Chained-up kids spark outrage

A Chinese orphanage became the center of controversy after photos emerged online last week of two boys with learning difficulties tethered to a bench, one by chains and the other by cloth strips, in Cangnan county, Zhejiang Province. A nursing assistant surnamed Wang said the boys, aged 6 and 9, were chained because one had schizophrenia and was violent, while the other was tied around his neck because of his epilepsy. After Southern Metropolis Daily reported the scandal, director of the orphanage Lin Shouguo was removed. Cangnan's county government is still investigating the case. What do Web users think of the orphanage's decision to chain children with learning disabilities? (Source: nd.oeeee.com)

Pointed problem for Guangzhou's homeless

Cement cones have been erected under overpasses in Guangzhou to prevent homeless people from squatting under the bridges. No department from the city's government has claimed responsibility for the measure. The Southern Metropolis Daily interviewed the local Municipal Bureau of Parks and Gardens, which claimed the cones were erected 10 years ago under bridges in the districts of Baiyun, Tianhe and Wushan to prevent homeless people from gathering and tarnishing the city's image. Do Web users believe it's a suitable measure, or is it unfair to the homeless? (Source: nd.oeeee.com)
