Communication heads from various Malian ministries met on Thursday in Bamako to "come up with a governmental communication strategy for the transition period," an official statement indicated.

The objective of the meeting is to "contribute to the re- establishment of territorial integrity and consolidation of democracy in Mali through proper communication, information and sensitization of the public, political actors, civil society, the private sector, development partners and the international community," the statement from the Malian communication ministry said.

The Communication Minister who is also the government spokesman Hamadoun Toure reiterated the "determinant" role of communication and media in the realization of the two priorities that the transition government has been assigned.

The two priorities, according to Toure, are the restoration of ideal democratic conditions in the country through organization of free and fair elections.
