The identities of 10 people killed in a shopping mall fire last week in Jixian county of north China's port city of Tianjin have been confirmed.

The 10 victims were all female residents of Jixian, aged between 25 and 44, according to a statement issued by the Tianjin municipal government.

Six were saleswomen, two were cashiers, one was the owner of a home textiles store and one was a customer.

The blaze engulfed the five-story Laide Shaopping Mall on the afternoon of June 30, also leaving 16 people slightly injured.

However, many people online have cast doubts on the death toll published. One online post claimed that 378 people died in the fire but provided no convincing proof. Pressure has been mounting for more information to be disclosed.
