Shanghai's subway operator announced Tuesday that it will repair all leaks found on its trains after passengers posted photos online last week showing water gushing from one of the cars on Line 5.
The leak resulted from broken pipe in the train's air conditioning system, said Yin Wei, a press officer for the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group. The company undertook maintenance on the train immediately after reports of the leak surfaced.
Shanghai Shentong plans to carry out daily inspections and maintenance on trains to ensure passengers remain comfortable. "There are a total of 20 train models operating in Shanghai's metro system," Yin told the Global Times. "It is challenging for workers to maintain all of the trains, especially in the summer when the air conditioning system is under a lot of pressure."
Yin said that passengers can always call the company's hot line at 021-6437000 to report leaks and other problems.
