A senior official at Indonesian automakers association (Gaikindo) said on Wednesday that assets of car manufacturers operating in the country would reach 40 trillion rupiah (about $4.2 billion), employing 50,000 people within the next four years, local media reported.
"Based on our data, total assets of 13 car manufactures operating in Indonesia has reached 18.9 trillion rupiah (about $2 billion), employ 27,270 people as of now," Leman Natakusumah, head of statistic, information and cooperation at Gaikindo said as quoted by the Antara news service.
He added that the current asset figure was recorded from the data officially submitted by Japanese, South Korean and German automakers operating in the country.
Leman said that currently Indonesian plant of Japan's Suzuki car manufacturer, Suzuki Indomobil Motor (SIM), has the largest asset, worth 4.54 trillion rupiah.
"Its production facility employs 6,045 people, produces 140, 000 units per annum," he said.
The second largest one was the producer of Japan's Toyota cars, he added. Toyota Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) records an asset of 4.07 trillion rupiah, employs 5,860 people with production capacity of 120,000 units per year.
Indonesia is an essential production basis of several carmakers in the world as it offers competitive production advantages compared to it was in other countries. Cars produced in Indonesia were designed for export and are sold in domestic market.
Indonesia promises lucrative market in automotive business as it demonstrates stable possible growth and individual GDP figure in the last few years. New car sale in Indonesia is estimated to reach over 1 million units this year, continuing the growing sale figures in the past few years.
