Benin's president to attend 19th AU summit

Benin's President who is also the current African Union (AU) chairman, Boni Yayi, is expected to attend the 19th ordinary summit of the AU heads of state and government which is scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa of Ethiopia between July 15 to 16, a statement from the country's foreign ministry has said.

The summit, which was initially scheduled to be held in Malawi, "will see a repeat of the election of members of the Commission, following consultations on the issue that took place between March 17 to May 14, 2012 in Cotonou," the statement said on Thursday.

During the summit, the heads of state and governments will examine various reports, especially the interim report on transformation of AU Commission into the African Union Authority and the interim report of African justice ministers and prosecutors on how to relate with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
