The political dialogue between the Cote d'Ivoire's government and the opposition will resume on Friday with the scheduled meeting between prime minister Jeannot Ahoussou and a delegation from the Cote d'Ivoire Popular Front (FPI), the party of ex-president Laurent Gbagbo, an official source told Xinhua on Thursday.

A statement from the prime minister's office indicated the meeting will be a continuation of discussions which were suspended in November 2011 as FPI conditioned its participation in the legislative elections to the release of all their detained leaders and the unfreezing of the accounts of party officials.

The government hopes to revive talks with the opposition, especially Gbagbo's party, in order to involve all stakeholders in the ongoing national reconciliation process.

During a press conference on Wednesday, the FPI national secretary Sebastien Dano Djedje gave assurance of the willingness of his party to participate in the political dialogue between the government and the opposition as from July 13, 2012.

The FPI was never "active" during a previous summit that was held in the southern town of Grand-Bassam and the party only attended as "an observer."

Cote d'Ivoire's prime minister has on several occasions urged the opposition leaders and their supporters to get involved in the ongoing national reconciliation process.

The country is still smarting over the consequences of the 2010- 2011 post-election violence which resulted in deaths of 3,000 people and displacement of a million others.

National reconciliation is considered as one of the major challenges that need to be overcome by the Cote d'Ivoire's authorities and the population.
