Indonesian Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said on Friday that he was optimistic that the economy could expand by 6 percent this year.

"I am optimistic that Indonesia's economy can grow above 6 percent," he said at Finance Ministry office.

The minister said that the government had prepared several measures since last year to face the risks of the debt crisis in Europe.

Among the steps that had been taken to face the crisis were providing financial stimulus and boosting infrastructure facilities, said Martowordojo.

Under the government long-term infrastructure development, it was expected that the economic growth could be spurred.

Indonesia less depends on its exports compared with export- oriented neighboring countries. Indonesia's exports only account for about 26 percent of the GDP. Huge domestic market demand and growing investment is believed to have offset decline on exports.

On Thursday the bank revised down Indonesia's economic growth target for this year to 6.1 percent to 6.5 percent from the initial target of 6.3 percent to 6.7 percent.

For the next year, the bank also trimmed the growth target to 6. 3 percent to 6.7 percent from the initial target of 6.4 percent to 6.8 percent.
