At the Tokyo Cosmetic Collection held in Shanghai on July 8 in Super Brand Mall in Pudong New Area, representatives of top Japanese cosmetic brands and fashion industry insiders shared their opinions on, not only trends, but also new technology in skin care and makeup for this summer.

Brands such as Shisedo, DHC and Kanebo are all promoting various products that promise anti-aging and complete cleansing properties.

Protect yourself

This season, many Japanese sun creams are aiming to protect and heal skin after excessive exposure to the sun.

"Women shouldn't just care about how much PA (protection anti UVA) and SPF (sun protection factor) value a product has, but also how many nurturing ingredients there are in sunblock products," a Shanghai-based cosmetic consultant, surnamed Jiang, told the Global Times.

Mizutani Masako, an expert in anti-aging skin care techniques in Japan, suggests women should use cosmetic products that contain vitamin C because it helps to keep the skin looking energetic and young. "You also need to keep in mind that you should use a product that meets the demands of your day, rather than blindly slapping on the same thing all the time," she told the Global Times.

Summer routine

Saeki Chizi, a 69-year-old skincare expert who is often referred to as "the godmother of beauty care" in Japan, suggests that women drink as much water as possible so as to make up for dehydration in the sun. She also emphasized that basic steps for skin care, such as replenishment and moisturizing, shouldn't be skipped in summer.  Chizi says this often happens because many women stop using lotions or cream when their skin is sweaty or oily on hot days.

"Women can also use their own fists to massage their face from the jaw to ears, and to press the lymph nodes on both sides of the neck, so as to prevent suffering edema," said Ma Xiao, a visitor to the show.
