An object that looked like a corpse floated down a river in Wendeng, East China's Shandong Province on July 11. Eighteen police officers took about an hour to salvage it, only to discover it was an inflatable doll. The spectacle caused traffic congestion when thousands of people gathered.
After receiving the report that a corpse was spotted on the river, police rushed to the scene. They attempted to salvage from the riverbank, but it was far beyond their reach at about 50 meters away.
The policemen then moved to the top of a bridge to try again. Thousands of people gathered, cluttering up the bridge, stopping fire trucks from accessing the scene. It took 15 minutes for the police to move in and clear the road.
Forty minutes later, the policemen and firemen eventually got the "corpse" to the riverbank, only to realize it was an inflatable doll the size of an adult woman. The police dispersed the onlookers in order to "prevent confusion and anxiety."
