Legislators in Indian-controlled Kashmir Thursday casted their votes to elect India's next president, officials said.
The voting is underway in the region's assembly house in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"The voting began this morning and legislators are casting their votes," said an official in-charge of conducting elections.
Members from the both houses of law making body in Indian- controlled Kashmir are participating in the voting.
The main contenders for the post of President of India are ruling Congress party backed United Progressive Alliance (UPA) nominee Pranab Mukherjee and P A Sangma. Sangma is supported by Bhartiya Janta Party led National Democratic Alliance.
The ruling coalition of National Conference and Congress in Indian-controlled Kashmir has vowed to support UPA nominee Mukherjee.
According to India's official broadcaster All India Radio (AIR), the counting of votes is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
