Fan, a 27-year-old assistant police officer in Fuyang, Anhui Province, felt a tight pain in his chest and numbing in his limbs during a drill on July 15. He was rushed to a hospital where he went into sudden cardiac arrest. Doctors tried to save him through cardiac compression and electrical defibrillation.
After 45 minutes, Fan's breathing did not return. Though a patient can be declared dead when his heart has stopped for over 30 minutes, the doctors did not stop. After 70 minutes of cardiac compression, the curve on the ECG (electrocardiogram) increased.
But Fan remained close to death because of the myocardial infarction. After some Thrombolytic therapy he regained consciousness.
It was a miracle that Fan didn't suffer from brain injury since his heart had stopped for such a long time. He later fully recovered.
