One soldier of Turkish security forces was killed and eight others wounded in a grenade explosion launched by members of the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey late Sunday, private Dogan news agency reported on Monday.

The blast erupted at Yesiltas Station in Daglica region of Yuksekova town of Hakkari province, according to the report.

The wounded were taken to hospitals for medical treatment, said the report.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, took up arms in 1984 in an attempt to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. Since then over 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the group.
