A 23-year-old man was sentenced to six and half years in prison for stealing 88,800 yuan ($13,824) worth of watches and jewelry from a man he had a one night stand with after meeting online, a local court announced Tuesday.

The defendant, surnamed Liu, met the victim, surnamed Zhou, on March 6. After chatting for several hours, Zhou invited Liu to spend the night at his apartment, according to a news release from the Jiading District People's Court.

After having sex with Liu, Zhou woke up the next day to find Liu gone and his luxury Cartier and Bulgari watches missing, along with a ring, according to the news release. Zhou immediately called the police.

While detained by local police, Liu confessed to the theft and returned all of Zhou's possessions. The court found Liu guilty of theft. Along with the prison time, he was deprived of his political rights for a year and fined 13,000 yuan.

The court said Liu received a lenient sentence because he confessed to the crime and returned the stolen items.
