More than 700 Bahraini policemen have been injured during operations since the beginning of this year, said Bahraini Public Security Chief Major Tariq Al Hassan.

"Since the beginning of the year, 700 policemen have been injured. They continue to be attacked even during the Holy month of Ramadan," Al Hassan said at a press conference on Tuesday.

He said the policemen's lives were at risk in operations such as the recent one against an illegal bomb factory discovered on June 14 in Salmabad.

According to the police chief, the police have examined 14 locations and summoned 100 individuals in connection with its investigation into the bomb factory. With the assistance of investigative and forensic experts from Scotland Yard, "We have identified three new suspects. They are Hussain Abdullah Ali Mohammed, Ahmed Jaffar Mohammed Ali and Mohammed Yousif Mohammed Al Mughni," he said.

Al Hassan also respond to complaints about policemen's alleged misconducts in searches and raids in their extensive investigation into the bomb factory.

"These searches were completely legal under Bahraini law and were overseen by the public prosecutor. Some of these searches were conducted late at night or in the early hours of the morning. Understandably, some residents were upset and, in some cases, made allegations of improper police procedure," he said, adding that " If any officer is found to have violated proper procedures, the officer will be disciplined, or, if warranted, he will be arrested. "

The police chief said 14 cases against policemen were reported since the beginning of this year, in which 10 cases were referred to the concerned authorities, while four are still under investigation.
