Oh Jin Hyek of South Korea beat Japanese archer Furukawa Takaharu 7-1 in the final to win gold on men's individual event at Lord's Cricket Ground on Friday, ending South Korea's wait for a men's individual Olympic gold medal.

In the bronze medal match, Dai Xiaoxiang from China outscored Rick Van Der Ven in the shootoff to earn China's first individual medal in men's archery.

Oh, seeded No. 3 after the ranking round, shot just 28s and 29s in the final, an astonishing sequence of scores, and shot a 10 to win gold.

"My first dream has come true by competing in the Olympics, and now my second dream has come true by winning a gold medal, so I am a very happy man," said the gold medalist.

Dai also accomplished a breakthrough for Chinese archery.

"This is not what I wanted. I am not here just to compete for that one last arrow. Therefore, every time I reached that stage I tried not to think about what my opponents were doing and only think about what I needed to do myself. Those were the thought of my mind every time."
