Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met Friday in Jakarta and agreed to push bilateral relations forward.

Yang said further strengthening China-Indonesia strategic cooperation not only conforms with the fundamental interests of both countries and both peoples, but serves as a role model for the region.

Recalling Susilo's visit to China in March, Yang said China is ready to make joint efforts with Indonesia to carry out the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and push forward the bilateral strategic partnership and the strategic partnership between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The strategic cooperation between China and Indonesia, he said, is increasingly reflected in the active cooperation between the two sides on major global and regional issues against the backdrop of the current complicated international situation.

Susilo, for his part, said Indonesia attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with China and the strategic partnership between China and ASEAN.

He said cooperation between Indonesia and China has yielded fruitful results in various fields, setting the pattern for cultivating bilateral friendship and cooperation between different countries.

Indonesia is determined to deepen the sound cooperation in various fields with China and to actively boost the development of China-ASEAN relations, he said.

He said Indonesia is willing to coordinate and cooperate with China on regional and global issues of common concern, and to play a constructive role in promoting development and prosperity in the region and the world at large.

Indonesia is the first leg of Yang's ongoing three-nation Asia tour, which will also take him to Brunei and Malaysia.

During his stay in Indonesia, Yang will also co-chair, with Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, the second meeting of the joint committee for bilateral cooperation.
