Myanmar to build more hotels in Nay Pyi Taw for SEA Games

Myanmar will build more hotels in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw in preparation for the upcoming 27th Southeast Asian (SEA Games set for next year-end, local media reported Thursday.

Aimed at provision of more hotel rooms for the SEA games, a total of 19 hotels will be added to the existing 31 hotels to make up to 50 in Nay Pyi Taw hotel zone, said the Myanmar Post Global News.

Myanmar authorities have negotiated with hoteliers to meet customer demand in service sector.

Star rating system with hotels will be introduced not only for the existing ones but also for the newly ones to be added in Nay Pyi Taw.

The 27th SEA Games will be hosted by Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Ngwesaung Beach for 12 days starting from Dec. 11 to 22 next year and the event will be competed by 5,000 athletes from 11 countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam and host Myanmar.

Several millions of people across the region and the world are expected to witness the spectacular Games either on site or through the television and internet.

The SEA Games is the highest sports competition held in Southeast Asian region once every two years as of 1959.

So far, Myanmar has hosted them two times -- in 1961 and 1969. Myanmar stood first with 104 medals in the 1961 SEA Games and with 149 medals in 1969's, indicating that Myanmar emerged champion every time it hosted SEA Games.
