A TV antique appraisal show famous for destroying fakes has antique experts shaking their heads, saying the program has most likely destroyed genuine articles, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
On Beijing TV's World Collection, a panel of professionals examines objects and interviews their owners, while host Wang Gang stands by with hammer in hand. If deemed "fake", Wang rushes in to smash the object.
Recently the Capital Museum in Beijing and World Collection exhibited about 30 previously smashed fakes alongside genuine antiques at the Capital Museum. After viewing the exhibition, some experts found that many of the so called fakes were in fact genuine antiques, the paper said.
@风高同学: Even if they were fakes, they were still very beautiful. It's a shame to destroy them.
@PaulQgg: These are just the rules people agree to. People take their stuff to the program to be either authenticated as real or found fake and smashed.
@曾经的曾经一念: I don't agree with the show's premise of smashing fake antiques and relics in the name of preserving real ones. Once smashed, they are sentenced to death and cannot be restored.
@mugenn: I always feel that there are some relics that cannot be appraised in such a short time.
