Pirates have hijacked a Greek-owned oil tanker off Togo with 24 sailors on board, according to information monitored on Tuesday.

Gunfire erupted in the attack by pirates Tuesday morning 17 miles off the coast of the Togolese capital Lome, the International Maritime Bureau disclosed. The sailors were unhurt, according to the report.

The raid was a second this month in the oil-rich Gulf of Guinea, where piracy is frequently reported in recent years.

The Isle of Man-flagged was carrying gas oil when seized amid an exchange of fire between the pirates and a Togo navy patrol boat, the anti-piracy agency said.

On Aug. 19, another oil tanker was hijacked with 18 people on board, before set free last week off the coast of Nigeria.
