Local traffic police managed to escort an injured 2-year-old boy from his home near the Pudong airport to a downtown hospital in 30 minutes during rush hour, local media reported Tuesday.

Hot water accidently spilled on the boy Tuesday morning, leaving his arms and legs badly scalded, according to a report in Xinmin Evening News. Suffering from burns over 10 percent of his body, the boy was in dire need of treatment at the burn unit at Ruijin Hospital in Huangpu district.

Local traffic police received the emergency call at 8:30 am. It arranged an emergency route through Pudong New Area and Huangpu district for police to escort the boy's taxi to the hospital.

Hospital staff said the boy might have slipped into a coma if he hadn't been treated in a timely manner after the accident.
