Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu held talks with Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Vitaliy Zakharchenko in Beijing on Monday, pledging to strengthen law enforcement cooperation.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of China-Ukraine ties. Ukraine is a friendly and important partner of China, and China has always regarded bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, Meng said.

Over the past years, China's Public Security Ministry and Ukraine's Internal Affairs Ministry have maintained good relations and carried out pragmatic cooperation, which have contributed to each other's national security, social stability and the security of people's lives and assets, Meng said.

He called on both sides to strengthen cooperation in law enforcement and security affairs and combat transnational crimes together so as to effectively protect the security of the other's citizens in their country, maintain normal trade and people-to-people exchanges and promote the security and stability of the two countries and the region.

Zakharchenko echoed Meng's thoughts on enhancing cooperation in law enforcement and said his country was willing to expand the pragmatic cooperation with China's Public Security Ministry in various areas.

After the talks, both sides signed cooperation documents between the two ministries for 2013 to 2014.
