An upcoming bi-regional forum between South American and Arab countries will provide an opportunity for countries in the two regions to forge closer economic and cultural ties, Peruvian Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo said here Thursday.

The 3rd Summit of South America-Arab countries, to be held in Lima on October 1, will bring together 12 South American countries and the 22 member states of the League of Arab States for talks on how to promote economic cooperation and political coordination.

Roncagliolo called on participating countries to work together to make their voices heard in a globalized world and to evolve their relationship through dialogue.

The two-day summit will be held at a time when developed countries are still reeling from the fallout of the global financial crisis, while South American countries are enjoying stability and growth, the diplomat said, urging countries in South America to do more to maintain high growth.

He also expressed optimism that youth and cultural exchanges could help boost friendship between South American and Arab countries.
