The World Trade Organization (WTO) announced Friday that Argentina requested consultations with the United States Thursday on the latter's import restrictions of beef and other meat products.

Argentina claimed that the restrictions, applied on sanitary grounds, don't have scientific justification.

It also claimed that the measures of the US appear to cancel or impair the benefits for Argentina derived from the relevant WTO Agreements, according to the WTO website.

It's the fifth disputes involving Argentina in the WTO in last ten days.

On August 20, Argentina brought a case against European Union (EU) on its certain measures concerning the importation of biodiesels.

On August 21, the US, joined by Japan, complained to the WTO on measures taken by Argentina affecting the importation of good.

And Mexico followed on August 24 to request consultations with Argentina on the same issue.

And actually, the EU was the first WTO member to request consultations with Argentina on this issue on May 25. The two parties have already held some consultations.

Turkey, the US, Ukraine, Japan, Canada, Guatemala, Australia and Mexico have announced they have a substantial trade interest in this dispute and have requested to be joined in the consultations. Argentina accepted the request.
