Hundreds of Jordanians demonstrated in the capital of Amman on Saturday and called for sacking the government of Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh.
Jordanian security forces were heavily deployed in the heart of Amman, where hundreds of demonstrators rallied and chanted "Down with the government or prime minister Fayez Tarawneh."
The demonstrators voiced their anger over a decision by the government late Friday to increase the prices of gasoline and diesel, while the police blocked traffic to the area.
Protests have been taking place across Jordan since early 2011 to date, inspired by the upheaval in Tunisia that led to the ouster of former president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.
Jordan's opposition groups, mostly represented by the Muslim Brotherhood and youth groups, repeatedly called for radical political and economic reforms and uprooting corruption in the country, which is going through difficult economic conditions.
